Dickinson County Republican delegates joined with over 2,200 other Republican delegates from across the state to attend the Michigan GOP state convention in Lansing.

In addition to selecting district executive committee members and state vice chairs for a number of positions from outreach to finance, the delegates succeeded in electing Kristina Karamo as chair of the MIGOP.

“Despite the best efforts of the establishment, who engaged in a massive campaign of celebrity endorsements, the outcome of this election proved once again that the MIGOP is solidly in the control of We the People,” said delegate Jeff Gurchinoff. This was Gurchinoff’s second time attending a state MIGOP convention.

“Kristina’s election showed that the will of the people was stronger than any underhanded tactics and negative ads that attempted to misinform, intimidate and confuse us,” Gurchinoff added.

In a press release, the Dickinson County Republican Committee said it was pleased with the election of Karamo as the new state GOP chair.

“Michigan Republican delegates have given us hope,” said DCRC lead delegate Sharon Reuter. “They have proven to us all that with faith, conviction, and strong resolve, we can bring control of the party back to the people, where it belongs.”

The delegates from Dickinson County described Karamo as a passionate leader who is dedicated to the Constitution, the preservation of democracy, Christian values and truth.

“It’s shameful that the liberal media doesn’t recognize Kristina’s historic victory as the first African-American woman to lead the MIGOP,” said state delegate Pam Trask. “Instead, they disparage and dismiss her simply as an ‘election denier.’ That’s a bigoted cheap shot,” Trask said.

Karamo has refused to concede to Democratic incumbent Jocelyn Benson, who defeated her in the election for Michigan secretary of state in November.

A more detailed account of the MIGOP state convention will be presented at Thursday’s DCRC meeting. The local Republican Party meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Iron Mountain Senior Center. The public is invited.
